Hi, I’m Sachi.
If you’re looking for a great lunch spot around Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, I highly recommend Sengyo Inokichi, a small local restaurant located just a short walk away from the main approach street.
This place is well-known among locals for serving amazingly fresh seafood at very reasonable prices.
It’s hard to believe that such high-quality sashimi comes from a quiet corner near a mountain shrine!
Whether you’re visiting after exploring Dazaifu Tenmangu or looking for a peaceful place to enjoy local cuisine, this hidden gem is definitely worth a stop.

Sengyo Inokichi is run by a local fishmonger, and the shop next door sells fresh fish and sashimi for takeout.
When I visited, they were even grilling whole sardines for just 200 yen — and they looked absolutely delicious!
Their seafood rice bowls (kaisen-don) are a must-try, topped with thick slices of horse mackerel, tuna, bonito, sea bream, and even tobiko (flying fish roe).
You can really taste the freshness of the Hakata Bay catch.
Who Should Visit Sengyo Inokichi
- Travelers who want a filling lunch after visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu
- Sashimi or seafood lovers looking for authentic Japanese flavor
- Visitors searching for a great-value local meal
- Solo travelers who prefer a comfortable, casual place to eat
Seafood Chirashi Bowl with Extra-Thick Sashimi
The most popular dish at Sengyo Inokichi seems to be the daily set meal, but this time I tried their second most popular item – the Kaisen Chirashi (seafood bowl).
They serve both a single portion and a “Couple Size” (for two), and I went for the latter.
Perfect for sharing on a date! 💕

Just look at it – isn’t it gorgeous?
The bowl comes loaded with tuna, bonito, sea bream, horse mackerel, egg, and tobiko (flying fish roe).
Each slice of sashimi is thick and fresh, just as you’d expect from a fishmonger’s kitchen.
My favorite was the horse mackerel (aji) — firm texture with a subtle sweetness, typical of Kyushu’s fresh catch.
Despite being rich and flavorful, it’s not heavy at all, and I couldn’t stop eating.
There was so much sashimi that I almost wished for more rice — that’s how generous the portion was!
The meal also came with soup and a small dessert of black tea jelly, making it a truly satisfying lunch.
Definitely a place I’d love to visit again.
Quiet Location Away from the Crowds
Sengyo Inokichi is located in a calm area, just a short walk off the main approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy a quiet meal away from the crowds.

The restaurant is bright and clean, with counter seats available, so even solo travelers can feel comfortable dining here.
Great Value for the Quality
Affordable Lunch Sets and Seafood Bowls
Some visitors might assume prices are high because it’s near a tourist spot —
but that’s not the case here!
The Seafood Chirashi (Couple Size) was only ¥3,000, and the Single Portion was ¥1,650.
For this level of freshness and thickness of sashimi, it’s an amazing deal.
They also offer:
- Grilled Fish Set with Sashimi (¥1,500)
- Special Lunch with both Chirashi and Daily Set (includes chawanmushi) – ¥2,200
No wonder locals keep coming back again and again!
