Hello, I’m Sachi.
Have you ever heard of Cheesecake Kenkyujo, a small but famous cheesecake shop tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of Dazaifu?
Even before I moved here, friends often told me that it’s one of the best places to enjoy cheesecake in Japan.
Today, I’d like to introduce its second branch — Chuta no Kissa, a cozy café located just a short walk from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Station.
From its terrace, you can enjoy a charming view of the approach to the shrine while relaxing with coffee or a slice of their signature “White Cheesecake.”
If you’re looking for the best cheesecake café in Dazaifu, this hidden gem is definitely worth a visit.

Enjoy Cheesecake and Lunch at Dazaifu’s Café by Cheesecake Kenkyujo
Chuta no Kissa is the second branch of the famous Cheesecake Kenkyujo (Cheesecake Laboratory), a local favorite in Dazaifu known for its creamy and creative cheesecakes.
Unlike the original shop, this café also serves hearty lunch sets and curry, making it a perfect spot for both meals and sweets.
The café is located on the second floor above Lawson, just a few steps from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station.

Walk behind the convenience store and you’ll find a staircase leading up to the entrance.

Inside Chuta no Kissa: A Stylish White-and-Blue Café in Dazaifu
Inside, the café is bright and stylish, decorated in white and light blue tones that create a refreshing, cozy atmosphere.

The café’s mascot, a cute mouse named “Chuta”, appears all around the space — on the menu, the flag decorations, and even in small goods you can buy as souvenirs.

There’s also a fun corner with a Cheki instant camera, where guests can take photos and pin them on the wall.

The café’s second-floor terrace offers a pleasant view of Dazaifu Station and the lively shrine approach — a perfect spot to relax and people-watch while enjoying dessert.

Best Lunch at Chuta no Kissa: Otona-sama Lunch & Massaman Curry
When I visited around 11:30 a.m., the café was still quiet with just a few customers arriving later. It felt calm and relaxing — perhaps because most people come here for coffee and cheesecake in the afternoon.
Otona-sama Lunch (1,650 yen)
This playful “Adult Lunch Plate” lets you choose a main dish from pork cutlet, fried chicken, or chicken nanban.
The plate also includes curry pilaf, Napolitan pasta, shrimp fry, seasoned egg, bean sprouts, kinpira lotus root, salad, and soup — a colorful and nostalgic combination that feels like a grown-up version of a children’s lunch.

Each plate comes with a little flag featuring Chuta the mouse, adding a cute touch!
Dessert includes pudding ice cream, but you can upgrade to a slice of cheesecake for an extra charge.
There are also larger versions called “Full Stomach Lunch” and “King’s Lunch” for those with a big appetite.
Massaman Curry (1,180 yen)
The Massaman Curry was creamy and full of flavor, with a rich coconut milk base reminiscent of Thai green curry.
It comes with a side salad, bean sprouts, lotus root, and soup — a balanced and satisfying meal.

Must-Try Cheesecake in Dazaifu: White and Seasonal Flavors
Of course, no visit is complete without trying their signature cheesecakes.
I ordered two flavors: Apple & Chestnut Cheesecake and White Cheesecake.
Apple & Chestnut Cheesecake
This seasonal cheesecake combines fruity apple, nutty chestnut, and smooth cheese in perfect harmony.
The top layer is a light pie crust, giving it an apple-pie-like texture, while still letting the cheesecake flavor shine.

White Cheesecake
The star of the café — this cheesecake is made with white chocolate, creating a rich, creamy, and mild flavor.

It’s gluten-free and egg-free, making it a safe choice for people with allergies.
Sweet and dense, it’s one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had — a must-try for any dessert lover!
You can also order the same cheesecakes as at the original Cheesecake Kenkyujo, but here you get to enjoy them with lunch or coffee.
A cheesecake and drink set costs around ¥1,050, or you can add a slice to your lunch for +¥500 (without drink) — a good deal for such quality.
Takeout cheesecakes are also available.
