The Famous Dazaifu Burger at Chikushian: Fried Chicken with Plum and Tartar Sauce
I decided to try their signature item — the Dazaifu Burger.
Dazaifu is famous for the legend of the “Flying Plum Tree” (Tobi-ume), and this burger celebrates that tradition with a special plum-based sauce.

Inside the burger, you’ll find:
- Crispy fried chicken
- Shredded cabbage
- Creamy tartar sauce
- Sweet-and-sour plum (ume) sauce
The chicken is well-seasoned and juicy, the coating perfectly crisp.
The shredded cabbage and tartar sauce add balance, while the tangy plum sauce gives a refreshing accent.
It’s a truly one-of-a-kind local burger that captures the flavor of Dazaifu!
Chikushian’s Karaage: Fried Chicken Marinated in Plum-Infused Irizake Sauce
Another must-try item at Chikushian is their fried chicken (karaage).
What makes it special is that it’s marinated in “Irizake”, a traditional Japanese seasoning made with plum and dashi broth.
The result is tender, flavorful chicken with a subtle hint of plum — delicious even when it cools down.
After tasting the karaage inside the burger, I definitely want to go back and try it on its own next time!
